Two Local Nonprofits Team Up For ‘Rising Tide’ Screening; Film Focuses On Housing Insecurity
The Cape Cod community is set to engage in a meaningful dialogue on housing insecurity through the upcoming screening of A Rising Tide, a documentary directed by Cheryl Fabio. The film, which follows the experiences of women and children facing housing challenges in California’s Alameda County, draws parallels to the struggles encountered by many families on Cape Cod. The screening is scheduled for June 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Chatham Orpheum Theater and is co-sponsored by the Housing Assistance Corporation and Sustainable Practices.
Cheryl Fabio, a Class of 2021 Women of Color LeadStrong Fellow with LeaderSpring Center, brings a profound depth of understanding to the subject through her documentary work. Her film aims to shed light on the pervasive issue of housing insecurity and the societal stigmas that often accompany it.
Christina Wiseman, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Housing Assistance Corporation, emphasized the relevance of the film's themes to the Cape Cod region, noting that the challenges depicted are reflective of local realities. Madhavi Venkatesan, Executive Director of Sustainable Practices, highlighted the intrinsic link between housing stability and sustainability, advocating for a more inclusive and empathetic approach to addressing homelessness.
This collaborative event underscores the importance of community engagement and awareness in tackling housing insecurity, encouraging attendees to consider the multifaceted nature of the issue and the collective efforts required to address it.
