The San Francisco nonprofit sector is facing a crisis due to federal funding uncertainties stemming from Trump administration policies, including an abrupt funding freeze.

Lance Toma, CEO of the San Francisco Community Health Center and Class of 2015 San Francisco Fellow with LeaderSpring, shared his concern, stating, “Right now we’re in a crisis mode just to make sure we do what we can to protect our staff and our clients.”

Toma’s center was directly impacted by a $2 million grant cut due to an executive order on gender ideology. Despite temporary relief, the future remains uncertain as nonprofits struggle to maintain operations and protect vulnerable communities.
