Facade Installation Complete for Transbay Block 2 West, San Francisco

The recent completion of the façade installation at Transbay Block 2 West marks a significant milestone in San Francisco's commitment to expanding affordable housing options for its senior population. Located in the East Cut neighborhood, this nine-story development will offer 151 studio and one-bedroom apartments, including 30 units designated for formerly unhoused seniors and 60 units for extremely low-income residents.

The project is spearheaded by the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC), under the leadership of Executive Director Malcolm Yeung. Mr. Yeung, a Class of 2017 San Francisco Fellow with LeaderSpring Center, has been instrumental in advancing CCDC's mission to provide quality housing solutions for vulnerable populations. He has described Transbay Block 2 West as the organization's largest senior housing initiative in 25 years.

Designed collaboratively by Mithun and Kerman Morris Architects, the building features a distinctive façade that steps down to five stories on its northeast side, creating a townhouse-like appearance with private stoops. This design fosters a sense of community and integrates seamlessly with the future Clementina Street extension and adjacent park space.

With construction led by Swinerton, Transbay Block 2 West is on track for completion by the end of 2025. The development not only provides much-needed affordable housing but also contributes to the revitalization of downtown San Francisco, aligning with the city's broader goals for inclusive urban growth.
